James: A Faith That Works. The Loyalty Test

Image
The Allegiance Test: The Enemies We Must Face (James 4:1–12; with James 1:2–4 as our lens) We’ve journeyed through James and arrived at chapter 4. If last week was  the wisdom test , this week is  the allegiance test —the loyalty test. James asks a blunt question:  Where does your loyalty lie? Before he addresses conflict, he reminds us of our context: “Consider it all joy… when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.”  (James 1:2–4) God doesn’t waste pain. Trials train endurance, and endurance grows us up. Chapter 4 shows  how —by revealing the battlegrounds that pull at our loyalty. Three Wars That Test Our Loyalty (James 4:1–12) 1) The Flesh: Desires at War Within (vv. 1–3) “What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is it not your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust… you envy… you a...

Wednesday Nights at CWC: Weekly Discipleship and Monthly Worship

Image
MIDWEEK TEACHING The ministry and focus of CWC is captured by our mission statement: We exist to grow people, UP in Christ, DOWN in the Word, IN to one another, and  OUT to the world. The goal of our Wednesday midweek service is to grow people down in the Word through Bible teaching and discipleship. The midweek teaching allows us to go deeper in the Bible than what can happen at Sunday services. On Wednesdays, the sanctuary is turned into a classroom with tables. Pastor Matt teaches using multimedia and regular handouts. There are opportunities for you to ask questions and engage in interactive group discussions.  Now is a great time to begin.  We are beginning a teaching series through the prophetic Book of Revelation.   Come study with us and learn about the future God has planned for His Church and the end of the age.  MONTHLY WORSHIP  On the first Wednesday of every month, we pause our Bible study and have a worship, prayer, and communion service....

1st Wednesday Worship, Prayer, and Communion May 7th @ CWC

One of King Solomon's greatest achievements was building the Temple.  On the inauguration day, they brought in the Ark of the Covenant to the Holy of Holies in the Temple.  The Ark of the Covenant was the place where the presence of God would rest between the Cherubim on the top of the Ark.  Notice how much singing, worship, and praise were included in this momentous moment recorded in 2 Chronicles 5:12-14! And the Levites who were musicians—Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and all their sons and brothers—were dressed in fine linen robes and stood at the east side of the altar playing cymbals, lyres, and harps. They were joined by 120 priests who were playing trumpets.  (13)  The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise and give thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, they raised their voices and praised the LORD with these words: “He is good! His faithful love endures forever!” At that moment a thick cloud filled...

Good Friday: The Darkest Day, the Brightest Hope

Good Friday: The Darkest Day, the Brightest Hope Theme: The Lamb Slain Matthew 27:27–61 , Isaiah 53:4–6 , Psalm 22:1–18 Today we come to the darkest day in human history—and the brightest hope of redemption. At Golgotha, the sinless Son of God was nailed to a Roman cross. The sky grew dark. The earth trembled. The One through whom all things were made (John 1:3) gave up His breath to save those who had rebelled against Him. This is not just a tragic injustice—it is a divine transaction. "He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed." – Isaiah 53:5 Jesus did not die as a victim. He died as a substitute. The Lamb of God bore the wrath of God so that the people of God could be reconciled forever. On the cross, Jesus cried out, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?" (Matt. 27:46). He was quoting Psalm 22, entering fully into the anguish of sep...
